I’m hoping to activate and enable the fly fishing community to rally around one of our own Scot Simmons. For those who don’t know Scot you have most certainly seen a video of his son Cooper catching a trout on a dry fly all by himself, and have heard Scots excitement and enthusiastic voice behind the camera as he watches his son. Click here to see the video. He was also the subject of the Trout Unlimited film “The Studio” back in 2022. Click here to see The Studio.
On February 7, 2025 he was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer, and has begun aggressive chemotherapy treatment with hopes of slowing down the inevitable outcome.
Fly fishing has helped Scot with his past battles with mental health and bringing balance to his life. Knowing what fly fishing has done for him, he has given back to the fly fishing community. He’s member of the Twin Cities Trout Unlimited Chapter where he serves as the Youth Outreach Coordinator. He has also played an active role in TU’s Foster the Outdoors program, and has even hosted several fly fishing camps for kids and teens in underserved communities.

Now Scot needs our help with his battle with this terrible cancer. He’s the health insurance carrier in his family and if he is unable to work due to the illness, he and his family will be without coverage.
Let’s help Scot out with #FliesForSimmons on Instagram.
