So, I am participating in my first fly swap. There is only 5 guys (including myself) involved in this one on a local fishing forum. Windy City Fishing

The swap theme is smallmouth bass, and I will be tying some EP Fiber baitfish on size 2 hooks. The only thing I am unsure of is what color to use. I am also, terrified that I will be giving my flies to other anglers. I am just worried that they will hate my flies. I am no master, but I think I have some fairly decent tying skills. Oh, well….here is just a sample of what I’m thinking. Color scheme is not set in stone.

EP Fibers, size 2 hook, orange thread, Clear Cure Goo eyes, and Goo.

  1. JustinJust found your blog on Outdoor Blogger—a samllie or spot would kill that fly—-fly swap good idea, may have to give that a try—thanks for sharing

  2. Hey Bill! Thank you! I'm hoping that the Illinois smallies and largemouth will like it! This is my first fly swap, and it seems like a good way to get to know some other fly fishermen/tyers, and to get a variety of different flies.

  3. That fly looks good. I participated in my first fly swap this year. I understand your fear. To make it worse my fly as well as the others were featured in an online magazine. Mine was by far one of the worst tied but the whole experience was great over all. You'll realize you're not as bad of a tier as you think you are. You'll also learn to really appreciate certain flies because you KNOW how long it would take to tie them. I'm really glad I did it and would happily participate in another. Good luck in yours. Are you calling the fly the Joker? Is that a hidden meaning in the background?

  5. Thanks, for checking out my blog, Kevin! I am still fearful of giving my flies to other anglers, even though I know that they will most likely enjoy them. I am really excited to see what the other guys have tied, and fish them. What online magazine were your flies featured? What did you tie?No, name for the fly. I just like to liven up the pictures of the flies I tie with different backgrounds. I suppose we can call this one \”The Dark Knight\” haha.
